September Sketch For You To Try

I love that Jen posts the SFYTT on Facebook on the Friday night before it goes live on her blog.  I got my Saturated Canary digi images that I won in last weeks FBW challenge.  I spent about 2 hours (and several bazillion Copic markers) coloring this beauty called A Washi Tape Kinda Girl.

And as it turns out this one fits in the Saturated Canary weekly challenge - Dotty this week...the whole right half of the card is dotty !!  :)

I {heart} washi tape especially since I learned to make my own during this year's Stamp-a-faire online event. I used up the last of my home made washi on this card.

Here are the Copic deets:
Hair: YR21, Y26, Y21
Skin: E13, E11, E00, E000, E0000, BV20, R83
Eyes: B97, B95, B91
Shirt: B18, B45, B41, R89, R85, R81
Shoes: R59, R27, R24
Pants: E47, 442, E41, E09, E09, YR65
Shadow: T4, T1

By the time I got to coloring the tape I was pretty wiped so I did not write down the colors.  Y, G, R, and BG but I couldn't tell you the numbers if my life depended on it.  Sorry 'bout that

I {heart} how she turned out.  Our last Copic Basic coloring class lesson was Light Sources and it really helped make her look better I think.  And I {puffy heart} the sentiment ... I've never owned "real" washi tape, but I bet I could love it as much or more than my home made kind!

Sketch Saturday Camp Card

I'm behind in blogging.  I've had this card done for a day or two, but haven't had time to snap pix and post.  So here we go on the second post of the day

I am having a stamp camp with my best stamping buddy Tara this weekend.  This is one of the cards that will be made.

I used the Sketch Saturday layout (hence the post title) and played with Copics and colorless blender solution to create a gloomy but rainbow brite thank you card

I used the sun ray and retro circles embossing folders from Tim Holtz to add texture to the base. I was going for a sun bursting out from the clouds on a rainy day effect.  I colored the center piece with BG72, BG75 and BG 78 then dribbled colorless blending solution on them to create the bubbled pattern.  This was for a  rain drops-clouds-bubbles-amoebas swarming a light source kind of  look.

To brighten things up I stamped the sentiment form Thanks All Ways and then colored the letters in rainbow colors (not sure if I got them in the right order because my baby girl (who is going on 20) wasn't here to sing me the rainbow song :) )

CPS and FBW Remix

I'm so excited for some of these new challenges I've found on line - there are no company requirements so I can use what I have / what I want and just follow along with the theme (or layout)

This week I combined the CPS layout with the FBW theme which was to decorate the inside.

Here's my card:

I started by Coloring the Brella Fairy (from SoG)  I used a new feathering technique I learned to color the dress.  I really like the  way it turned out.

Copic deets to follow:
YG17, 13, 11 (leaf)
V91, 95, 99 (eyes)
BV13, 08, 29 (hair)
R29 (hair tie)
E11, 13, 00, BV20, R81 (skin)
BG11, 13, YG11, 13, Y11 (dress)

To make the plaid I used BB:Retro striped image and stamped repeatedly in Lucky Limeade, Wisteria Wonder and Concorde Crush (all SU!)

Inside I stamped a sentiment form Thanks All Ways (PTI) in Concorde Crush and added the plaid pattern in Wisteria Wonder and Lucky Limeade.  I added the strips of Concorde Crush and Lucky Limeade to give a good separation between the writing area of the card and the decorated part (and to hide the little bit of a biff I made on the top row of the plaid .... creativity at work :) )

OWH Wedding

This week's OWH Sunday Sketch was perfect for a wedding card I had to make.  The theme is rustic vintage I believe (or rustic elegance one or the other)  Anyway, I helped the bride to be design the invites  - really just supplied some ideas and she took off running.  The invites are gorgeous and I wanted to make a card for the wedding in a similar vein

I used the same basic colors of the invite (Early Espresso and Fine Linen) as well as the same texture / impression plates (Distressed and Wood Grain).  I dyed some white satin ribbon with Early Espresso re-inker to get the custom ribbon and used linen thread and a vintage wood button to finish off the look.
The sentiments are from Big & Bold Wishes

FBW - Friends

This week's Flutter By Wednesday challenge was to create a friendship themed card.  Since I did a fairy last week I thought I'd change it up a little and use butterflies

Here's my card:

I used the OWH Sunday Sketch as the layout.  I used my new Autumn Hills set for the focal layer and colored it up in multiple colored autumn hues.  The trees I made a little whimsical and colored the leaves shades of red, pink, orange gold and green.

Colors are Crumb cake, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Swirl and a hint of Midnight Muse (all SU!).  The butterflies are from Beautiful Butterflies (PTI) and the sentiment is from Friends til the End (also PTI)

More Off To College Cards

Here are some more Off To College cards for my daughter and her friends  I used the same basic layout on all of these and the images I colored here.

This first one is for my Colie.  She loves animals (dogs especially).  I used a Soft Suede card base to keep with the neutral brown theme of the card.  I stamped the card base with BB:Houndstooth and the middle Crumb Cake strip with Grunge Me (both PTI)  Colors on the grunged layer are Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Early Espresso (all SU!) and True Black (PTI)

Since I used a little scarlet jewel on the skull barrettes, I pulled that into the sentiment, which I made as a tab. I edged it with Black Copic 100 and stapled it on the focal layer.

This next one is for Colie's very best friend T who is a Japanese major  Colors are Pool Party, Island Indigo  and Poppy Parade (SU!)
The Kanji stamp is an old SU! set that I keep going back to for the girls since they are all so into Japanese culture.  I thought the Wisdom stamp was appropriate for an Off To College card :)

And lastly this one for Britty, another of Colie's very best friends who has been around since elementary school.  When I colored this image (Poppy from TI) I intentionally colored it Alice In Wonderland-ish because the girls also all LOVE Tim Burton.
I wanted a whimsical background so I played around with my Copics (B99, B97, B95) and scribbled on some Xpress it blending card.  When I had good coverage I dribbled colorless blending solution on it - being careful not to flood the paper (yes this is my second attempt as I did flood the first one.  It still looked cool, but didn't have the distinct circles on it)

Off To College

Last year as my daughter and her friends went off to their first year at college I decided to send them cards every few months just so they got mail (and so I had something to do with all the cards I made :).  This year as they head off to their second year, I plan on doing the same thing.  They are all rather different and so I get to create lots of different styles.  I am going to use the images I colored here to make the first round

Here is the first one I finished for The Pink One herself, Miss Katie-bird

I used this week's Saturday Sketch #221 as the layout.  It was just perfect for the card that was forming in my mind and  added a few details I hadn't pictured yet. I LOVE how this one turned out!!!

I used the striped image from  BB:Retrro (PTI) to create the plaid.  I only stamped up to the point where the other layers started for times sake, but you can't tell with the bitty bit of overlap.  The next pattern is BB:Houndstooth also from PTI.  I stamped that in True Black (PTI) on Melon Mambo card stock (SU!) and sponged the edges in black to offset it a little.  The sentiment is from Mega Mixed Messages (PTI) and the 2 little embellies next to the sentiment are hot pink staples.
The girl is Poppy, one of my new digis from TI.

Here is the Copic map:
Flowers: R24, R27, R29
Leaf/stem: YG23, YG25, YG95
Clothes: T1, T4, T6
Hair: RV10, RV13, RV14
Skin: E000, E00, E11, R81

Interesting how I made this for Katie before I saw her all pinked out for the Susan G Komen 3 day Walk For The Cure .... her hair looked pretty close to this for the fund raiser  ;)

Coloring Endeavors

I spent the better part of this evening color my new Tiddlys.  I love these digis more than I can say

Here's the lot of them

This is Chi ...I wanted to work on the dark honey hair on this one.
I didn't even write down the Copics I used so I hope I can recreate this some time again (and document the formula.  I'm a Systems Engineer - you'd think I'd know the benefits of design documentation by now :/

This is Poppy - or maybe its Pinky.  Hard to tell them apart (Dogs R Fun is the digi name).  I think this is my fave of all that I did.

These next 2 are Poppy.  I colored one a little Alice In Wonderland-ish  and the other ...

Very not Alice.  I like them both although I think I did a better job on the pink hair.  I used the Warm Grays on the pink haired Poppy's dress.  I just got those recently and love them.  Who knew there were so many different shades of gray (yeah I know 50 - but lets not go there.)

Wish

I found a couple of new challenges last week.  One is Flutter By Wednesday (FBW) and the deal there is you have to use butterflies or fairies.  My best stamping buddy Tara made the FBW design team and this week is the restart of the challenge so I bought me a bunch of fairy digis and decided to play along.

The layout is for Sketch Saturday - another challenge I stumbled across this week.  I used this weeks sketch and the Open Challenge from FBW to make this card:

Color scheme is Raspberry Fizz and Simply Chartreuse (PTI).  I used Raspberry Fizz pattern pack for the banner strips.

The sentiment is from Tiny Tags II (PTI).   The cuteness little fairy is Spunky Sprite from SoG.  I colored her using E11, E00, E000, E0000S(Skin), YG25 (hair), YG23(dress), and YR26, YR23 (flower).  I added a contrast using C1 on the wings then glittered the heck out of them so they look more fairy-like.

Copic Class - One Color Shading

I thought I would post my next Copic Coloring Basics class.  We did a one shade coloring technique.  Any shading you see in these images was brought about by coloring, letting dry, then coloring again in the same shade.  It darkened it up some.  I might still need to work on this a little though.

The skin tone on the far left image is the one I'm most happy with.  I think that turned out pretty good.

Here are detail shots of teh triplets:

A CPS Birthday

So Sunday is my usual day to catch up on stuff around the house, print off challenges for the week and nap :)  When I saw this week's CPS sketch I kept thinking ... bubbles, it looks like bubbles, I need a fish in the middle.  But do I have any fish stamps - No.  So I whooshed across the internets to one of my new fave spots (www.someoddgirl.com) and searched for fish stamps.  I found Goldie ... a  terribly cute little gold fish.  Lucky for me and my instant gratification soul Goldie is also a digi - so my fish stamping soul was gratified instantly (or in a minute or too - cuz I did have to actually pay first)

Here's my card:

I started with a Pool Party base and cut another layer just 1/4 inch smaller.  On the smaller layer I stamped the grass clump image from Peaceful Garden [PTI] in Lucky Limeade [SU!].  I stamped the sentiment from Peaceful Garden in Tuxedo Black on a 1" strip of vellum.  Then I used a trick I learned from Nichole Heady's blog and scored a 1/8" strip on either side and adhered the strip with scor-tape hidden by the score line.

This came out pretty much how I anticipated.  I did have a little trouble with the bubbles.  I wanted them more 3D but all my attempts met with failure, so I settled for simple vellum circles.  I used Divine Swirls embossing folder to give some texture instead.

For Goldie I used YR18, YR15 and YR12.  For the water around her, I used BG10, BG11 and BG000.  I used a colorless blender and dotted her with the brush end to simulate a scaled look.

OWH Sunday Sketch 132- A card for Rizzo

My very best stamping buddy Tara has the most adorable daughter Rizzo (Clarissa for reals, but she goes by Rizzo).  I get the distinct honor of being one of the grown ups who gets to go to her birthday party.  This is the card I made for her this year (know that Rizzo loves Hello Kitty and pink dragons.   got the pink in there, but hopefully she'll like the glitter as much as her mom does)

The sketch is from this week's OWH Sunday sketch.  I know its Friday, but its been a crazy week and other than my Copic coloring class this is my first crafting time all week.  The image is from TI - Cherry On Top Wryn (I LOVE these images - partly because they are so adorable and partly because my youngest daughter's nick name is Rin (Rinlee actually because , well, it just is)

My little Rin used to be just this adorable.  She's almost 18 now and quite a beautiful young lady, but I remember her like this not so long ago.  Rizzo looks very similar
Enough rambling.  Here are the deets:
Card stock: Pretty In Pink, Melon Mambo [SU!]; XPress It blending card [Copic]
Ink: Melon Mambo [SU!]
Stamps: Mega Mixed Messages [PTI]; Cherry On Top Wryn [TI digi]
Colors:
W1, W4, W6, Y26, Y21, YR24 (hair)
R29, R24, R59, E59, YG91, YG95 (cherry)
E11, E00, E000, E0000, BV000, R81 (skin)
RV04, RV17, RV19, BG05 (jumper and shirt)
BV08, BV13, BV29 (cupcake paper)
Y32, Y35 (cake)
BG02, BG05, BG07 (frosting)

Other: Glitter [SU! retired blue]; Swiss Dot embossing folder [CB]

The image is Thank You Mae from SoG

I've been going through some of the instructors old tutorial on their blogs so I know I'm better than a couple week  sago, but when I see whats out there, boy howdy to I have a lot to learn.

So excited for the next 10 - count 'em TEN -weeks of learning this skill better

August SFYTT

WoW .... This is my 500th post!  To celebrate I got a head start on this month's Sketch For You To Try (saw the sneaky peek on Facebook :)

And since I've been on such a coloring kick, I used on of my new Tiddly Inks digis for this sketch

For the card base I used Wisteria Wonder (SU!).  The layers are Blue Moon (Tiddly Inks) and Elegant Eggplant (SU!).  The image is Sweet Dreams Wryn.

For the coloring I used a whole boatload of Copics:
     Hair: E19, E08, E59, E47, E53, T1, T4
     Skin: E00, E0000, E11, BV000, R81
     Book: R29, R27, R24, R59, YR24, YR65
     Slippers: T1, T4, R81, R83
     Jammies: V91, V93, V99, BV08, BV13, BV29

The vertical piece was cut using the PTI Half & Half die and then embossed using the Divine Swirls embossing folder.  I thought the swirls added a nice whimsical touch.

On a happy note I'm signed up for the Created From Color Basic Copic class.  It starts Monday.  I can't wait to learn how to do this better!!

Thanks for stopping!
