Recipe Box

When I was home for Easter, my niece was talking about needing to get a recipe box because her recipe collection was growing now that she was out on her own.  I piped up "I can make you one if you want".  We talked colors and styles and I went away to ponder. 

I decided to make my own paper using the emboss resist technique and alcohol inks (I took this with my phone so it looks a little washed out)

Once I got my PTI order, I had my box (I used the egg box) and started to assemble and here it is ...

For the lid I cut a strip of white CS and stamped the border from F0r The Grad, without the "class of".  I stamped RECIPE from Recipe Box Labels in its place.

I also made a set of dividers using the Recipe Box set and the leftovers of the homemade paper.  I also used some Ocean Tides

Alright everyone ... open your May/June issue of Papercrafts to page 46 ... see that lovely mother's day card on the far left ... by Jessica Witty ... gorgeous.  Absolutely gorgeous

Its so simple yet so ... I don't know ... gorgeous :)

I used that as my inspiration for an anniversary card for my sister and brother-in-law

I used the new Awash with Flowers (2010-2011 SU! sneak peek) combined with PTI Background Basics: Text Style and a sentiment from Damask Designs.

The color combo is all SU! - Melon Mambo (2010 In Color), River Rock (coming back as a neutral for 2011) and white.  I masked the flower so the text background did not fill in the white space from the 2-step stamping.  I also colored the leaves in with Copics.

So here it is.....

I used creamy caramel as the card base and stamped with my SU! wood grain background on the long vertical layer to give it a natural feel. 

The focal image is Turning a New Leaf stamped in scarlet jewel.

The small flowers are punched from the SU! Trio Flower punch.  I colored them with Copics and curled the edges

The sentiment is from Fillable Frames #2

Lifes Moments

I'm in birthday card mode again .... my uncle is celebrating his 90th, my mom will be celebrating 77 in a few weeks plus assorted nieces, nephews and friends.

Here is a non-traditional birthday card I made using some new product from Stampin' Up!

This card is using the new Elements of Style stamp set, available May 1st.  I love the large flower/vine  stamp.  And I guess I'm getting over my bird aversion.  I water colored the flowers and leaves with my aqua painter and added a little color wash shadow as well

Although you can't see it very well I also stamped the large focal image with the Linen background stamp to give it a fabric look and distressed the edges with Antique Linen distressing ink from Tim Holtz.

Pedalling Past

Hi everyone.  I made this birthday card for my biking buddy, James (of the Jimmy Fins racing team and BRR fame)

I used the new Pedalling Past set from SU! (available in the Summer mini coming May 1st).  It has a couple of great vintage bikes as well as the scalloped border detail stamp.  To get a really good impression on the impression plate, I spritzed the paper with rubbing alcohol first.  I've used water before too, but the paper takes longer to dry.  With the alcohol, it dries much faster

One other new product that is coming out is Smooch Spritz ... glittery fine mist you can spray onto your projects.  I actually sprayed it onto a old piece of chip board and used a paint brush to add some sparkle to the white part of the bike

Australian Memory Box

My oldest daughter is going on a People To People Trip to Australia.  I am on the Bon Voyage party committee.  While it ends up mostly one last chance to impart instruction on the group, the committee decided to make a little gift for all the students and teachers going.

I found a great  stamp set from Crystal Productions that was aboriginal art

So here they all are just waiting for a party!

Mod Retirement Card

A friend of mine retired last week.  He's worked at my company 30+ years and I've known him for 20 of those years.  We worked together for a decade then as reorgs happened we ended up in different groups.  Right at the end we were in the same building so ran into each other every few weeks and got to catch up.

It was amazing to see the kids (and grand kids) come to the cake party they had at work ... I first met them when the kids were in middle and high school and now here they were with kids of their own!

Here is the card I made for the occasion:

I used Bermuda Bay paper, ink and ribbon, with some Always Artichoke for the stems
