SAF2106: Mastering Drips and Splatters

This challenge was Mastering Splatter and Drips with Lizzie Jones

At first I really struggled with this one .... I think the materials you use play a huge role in the success of this technique and it took a while to get the paint thinned down and the ink diluted correctly to see good results.

I still wasnt sure I liked this until I got the whole card together.  Now I think its kinda cool!

Jackson Pollock inspired Flower Garden

Stamps: Happy For You (PTI)
Paper: Watercolor, Melon Berry, Berry Sorbet (PTI)

SAF2016: Masterpiece Inspirations

This piece was for the Masterpiece Inspiration challenge

I chose the Red Poppy by Georgia O'Keefe, because first of all red.  It also reminded me of the PTI set Remember that I got years ago.  I loved that set and decided to use it for this challenge

After I stamped the single poppy I got stuck.  I loved the single poppy in the painting but the stamp was a much smaller scale.  Then I remembered the textured background I worked on a few weeks ago. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it so put it aside.  I think it makes a wonderful backdrop for the single poppy.

Stamps: Remember (PTI)
Paper: Watercolor, True Black (PTI)
Ink: Poppy Parade (SU! retired), True Black (PTI)
Other: Heavy Gesso, Tim Holtz stencils

SAF2016: Floral Impressionism

This challenge is the Floral Impressionism with Melissa Phillips.

Talk about a lot of work!  But love love LOVE this technique.  As much as I thought it would just take too long, I think the results are well worth the effort.  I am leaning toward making this a framed piece so I didn't finish it as a card.

Although I think I might buy the inks used in the video.  Mine I think turned out a bit dark.  I like them, but would like the lighter edge like in the tutorial

Stamps: Floral Sketches, Pretty Peony (sentiment)
Ink: too many to mention (SU!)
Paper: watercolor paper

SAF2106: Gilded in Gold

This challenge was the Gilded In Gold challenge by Danielle Flanders.

I decided to sort of just recreate Danielle's card, but with a sentiment instead of the monogram.  I like the technique used here and it made me get my paint pens out again.

Not sure I'm happy with this result, but I definitely love the technique!!

Stamps: Just a Number, Pretty Peonies (PTI)
Ink: Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals ( SU!)
Dies: Limitless Layers (PTI)
Other: Zig gold paint pen, edge punch

SAF2016: Starry Night

Now that I'm caught up with the challenges, I can finally write up more than just the ingredients.

This challenge was Starry Night with Amy Sheffer.

Wow, this challenge was really a ,well, challenge.  I really struggled and fussed with the darker colors.  Then it didn't look like enough of the lighter colors.  I finally had to just step back and I decided I liked the look (especially after the hubs came down and said "Oh cool".

I almost messed the whole thing up on the trees!  I didn't have a makeup wedge and thought a sponge would work OK.  It did for trunks but not the branches.  Fortunately I have been taking some paint along classes and we've done some things similar to the trees so I took a brush and touched them up.  I really like how they turned out.

I tried and tried to make that string nest.  I need to go back and wathc the tutorials on those because mine never come out.  They always look either too sparse or too clumpy.  I guess that's what I get for not crafting much since last years SAF :)

Then I remembered the shakers and sprinkles make it kit I bought ages ago ... it had silver stars!! so I added those with the rhinestones and voila!

Stamps: Inspired: Lord (PTI)
Ink:Wisteria Wonder, Midnight Muse, Marina Mist, Pink Pirouette, Coastal Cabana(SU!), True Black, Mint Julep (PTI
Accessories: Stars (PTI - Make It Market kit Sprinkles ?), Rhinestones (PTI)
Other: Tempera paint (black and white)

SAF2106: Master Color challenge

This challenge was the Master Color Recipe challenge.

I've been out of blogging for a while it seems.  My last post was LAST year's SAF challenges HA ... at least I have this event to look forward to every year :)

For today's first challenge I chose  White Center by Mark Rothko for my Master Color recipe.  I really loved the color block and decided to mimic it in my card.  And these colors are NOT in my wheelhouse so I wanted to try something different

Sets used: Some like it Hot (flamingo), and Tropics (sentiment)  all from PTI
Accessories: felt flowers, rhinestone brad (SU! retired)
Paper: Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, Terracotta tile, Raspberry Fizz, True Black (PTI) Very Vanilla (SU!)
