OWH Card 2

Here is card 2 I designed for the OWH card party last week:

We ended up doing a little mod to it during the party and punched out a heart and popped it up on dimensionals.  Gave it a little added something.  I also got out rhinestones so some of the cards we sent in had bling instead of the rustic button look.

Thanks for stopping by!

Operation Write Home party

As I processed the pictures from my OWH party last Friday I started laughing to myself ... I remembered to take pix of my friends making cards, and forgot to take a pic of the pile of cards that got made ...  and being my efficient self, they are already in a box on their way to Olathe KS to my local OWH shipper.  Sigh ... I'll get it all together one of these days.

We made about 100 cards during the evening - in addition to talking and having a fun girls night.  We sent in 123 cards and 1 AnyHero card ( I had some other cards already in the box ready to go.)

So without further ado ... here we are stamping for our soldiers:

I'll have pix of the cards posting this week ... then I better get busy making more stuff if I want to keep my new year's resolution!

Thanks for stopping by!

BRR ... and it was freezing!

I survived BRR 2010 ... I really want to get back in shape and get out on my bike again, even if I never ride this event.  It was about 27 degrees at ride start.  It never did snow but it got colder in the early afternoon.  Too cold for me to be outside for very long, even in my cuddleduds and performance fleece.

So without further ado, here is the Jimmy Fins Racing Team:

Thats James on the left (he rides) and me on the right (I drove the Midge Express to various points along the route in case there was a break down, gear needed to be changed or water bottles needed refilling)  I stayed toasty warm for the most part except for when I was in ankle-deep snow taking 100+ pictures as the riders came by.

Here is just a sampling:  [Click on photos to see a larger view]

Getting ready

First check point is the HyVee sponsored hot chocolate stand.

Riders on the Road

Milling About

Costumes

Land Shark - you know the theme from Jaws is playing in your head right now

In Rippey - the half way point

We had lunch in Rippey

and then headed back on the road.
Pix on the Road

And finally getting back to town

Didn't take any pictures once we got back to Perry .. too cold, too tired.  We just secured equipment and got back on the road to Des Moines.

After a rest and barbeque at Jethro's, the road crew whipped the rider in Wii Resort ( in wakeboarding and speed slice).  The road crew, ironically, got killed in Mario Kart :o)

BRR 2010 - Land of the FREEzing, Home of the BRRave

As you read this I am on my way to Perry Iowa to participate in the 34th annual BRR bike ride between Perry and Rippey.

Bike riding in the winter ... are you nuts?  Well no, but my good friend is.  He is riding and I am providing road support in case there is a break down or the weather gets bad enough that he needs to stop.

Apparently this ride goes on no matter the weather.  The first year my friend rode it was -47 (wind chill) You read that right MINUS 47.  Thats the kind of weather where you start up a fire in the fireplace and cozy down for the day, not head out on the open highways of Iowa.

Right now the weather at the ride start looks to be upper 20s and snow ... again I reiterate I will not be riding :)

I'll post some picks of the brrave souls on the ride (and maybe me all cozy in the Midge Express) next week.

Until then, enjoy your weekend

My publication attempt

I did ... I really did it.  I actually submitted a some cards for publication.  I didn't get selected, but at least I tried.

Here is one of the cards I submitted:

This was in the sketch category, so the layout was pre-defined.  It uses the new My Matryoshka set from Stampin Up! (I chose the clear mount option)  I colored with a boatload of Copics!  I also used the new scalloped edge punch from SU!  I love the detail on it.

The other card I submitted this one in the Thank You category:
I really like how this one turned out.  It may become and AnyHero card, or I may send it in my next Operation Write Home box.

Speaking of OWH, I recieved a letter from them today with tax info on it.  It turns out I've sent in 343 cards!  Many of those were donated from SU! demonstrators in my up/side line, but it still is cool to see.  I am hoping to beat that mark this year ... starting with a stamping party in  a few weeks.  I'll be posting card samples that we will make that night (and hopefully will remember to take some pix of the event itself

Thanks for stopping by

... and we are back online!

After nearly 2 weeks without my laptop, I feel almost giddy to have it back in working order.  I got it back on Monday but have been trying to reload SW for 2 days.  All better now

Here is a little card to celebrate in the trials

I printed both sentiment on lemon tart paper with brown ink color.  The glass is a piece of vellum I colored on the back of with my copics.  I added little vellum squares to look like ice cubes
