OWH Sunday Sketch

I used this week's Sunday Sketch to make notes for my college girl and her friends ... only 2 weeks of school left so I wanted to wish them luck on finals.

Colors are Crumb Cake and Early Espresso
Stamps are BB:Newsprint and You're My Type

I used one of the SU! Edgelits to make the asymmetric border on the top and bottom.

Stamp Camp is gonna be a dirty one this month

Dirty as in inky fingers ... geez! :)

Here are are the 2 cards we'll be making next week

 I haven't made a baby wipe card in a long time. I was hoarding my water color paper because I thought it was getting discontinued.  Then I found out it was just getting repackaged ... Now I am using it up :)

So we'll play with re-inkers and baby wipes and make beautiful, dreamy backgrounds

I also promised the stampy crew clean, simple and bright colors ... I think the flower card fits the bill on that

Unicorn Award

Ok, so without going into great gory engineering detail ... funny work story.  A guy I work with (Justin)  did something that made a task a lot easier for one of my team members.  When I told Dan about it his eyes bugged out ...  A LOT.  So apparently during a status update  telecon I made a comment that Dan's eyes bugged out like he just discovered the last unicorn.  Now I don't remember saying that, but it does sound like something I would say, being a lover of simile and all.

So last week I saw Justin and he thanked me ... because the guys he works directly with were on the telecon ... and thought the comment was hysterical ... and gave him a Unicorn Award certificate.  I haven't seen it but I snickered (loudly, maybe even snorted a little) when he told me.  Then he said he finds random unicorn bookmarks and paraphernalia that just gets anonymously left on his desk.  So now Justin is the proud owner of a unicorn collection, something he never dreamed of or wanted.

I feel that since I inadvertently set these things in motion, I ought to be a part of the collection making :)

The unicorn is a digi stamp that my stamping buddy Tara had.  She printed then asked if she could color it after I told her the story.  Since she has mad coloring skillz and a love of all things Stickles, I said sure.  Love how the little glitter and rainbow fella turned out :)

April SFYTT

So I haven't done a whole lot of crafting lately.  I just seem to be in a slump and don't feel creative at all.  Since even making a card seems like a challenge, I thought I'd continue the yellow theme because yellow is a challenge for me too.

Here's what I made for this months Sketch For You To Try

I like the idea of dots so went with the Swiss Dots CB embossing folder and Polka Dot Basics stamps set.  The colors are Soft Suede and Delightful Daffodil.  The floral stamp set is PTI's anniversary set Pretty Peony.

Papertrey March Blog Hop

The last time I participated in a yellow color challenge is was the May 2009 PTI blog hop.  I made this card ... I think I started that post saying how I'm not much into yellow, but I'd give it a go.

Things haven't changed much in the last nearly 3 years.  Still not a yellow fan. Its OK, but not a go to color for me ya know what I mean....  But I did love the bright cheery inspiration photo on this dull and dreary MIdwest day.  And since this has been declared an unofficial jammie day by my good friend Tara, I decided to craft a little.

Here's my card:

 I really thought I'd end up with stripes or polka dots ... thats what really stood out to me in the photo.  But when I went into my crafting lair I saw my poor BB:Medallions set sitting all alone and "never-been-inked" on my table.  I decided that had to change.  I used a color combo of Delightful Daffodil (SU! - my lemon tart got left open overnight and I haven't replaced it yet) Summer Sunrise, and Spring Moss.

My stamping buddy Tara had done a rainbow inking technique on a sentiment at this months stamp camp with stellar results, so I decided to give it a go.  I inked the whole sentiment with the Delightful Daffodil then added Summer Sun to the beginning and Spring Moss to the end.  The "Mother's" is stamped in Daffodil and the "Day:" is stamped in Spring Moss.

I rock and rolled the solid peony from this year's anniversary set in Daffodil and Summer Sun and stamped on a scrap of white CS.  I used Crumb Cake (Kraft) on the outline and stamped over the top.  The leaves I stamped in Spring Moss directly on the sentiment layer.  I cut the peony out with a craft blade then adhered it with some foam tape.

March SFYTT

I love the March sketch on Sketch For You To Try, but after my menu board I think I ran out of mojo.  I stared at it for a long time (like half an hour) and couldn't think of anything to do.  I had friends over for a stampy  party so we all just talked and ate and I helped them with cards, until I walked around my extra table and saw my Beautiful Butterflies set, still unopened.  I flashed back on all the gorgeous rainbow butterfly cards that were made during the count down and I finally had my inspiration.

Here's what I made:

Color scheme is Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo.  The accent colors are Rich Razzleberry, Delightful Daffodil and Tangerine Tango.

This is a birthday card for a dear friend.  Hope she likes the bright colors :)

My first Pinterest Project

Inspired by this menu board that I found on Pinterest,

I decided I had to have one of my own.

I didn't want to use a real wood frame because I am planning on using magnets and putting it on the front of my fridge, so I opted for patterned paper, chipboard and a little creativity.

I started with an 8x10 piece of patterned paper from the Everyday Enchantment SAB paper pack from SU!

I added chipboard to the back using a strong permanent adhesive.  My chipboard is only 6" wide and as you can see I miscalculated the second cut, but its on the back and the "frame" I am making along with the magnetic strips should stabilize it just fine.

For the frame I used 2 1"x 10" and 2 1" x 8" pieces of chipboard.  I mitered the ends at a 45° angle so they will fit together like a frame.  I used Scor-tape on the back of these.  I covered the front with some wood grain DSP from SU! that was in the holiday mini last year.

Next I needed the meal card holders,  I used a 2.5" by 6.5" piece of a different wood grain DSP.  I scored on the long side at 0.5", 3", 3.5", and 6".  On the short side, I scored at 0.5".  I cut the scored lines into tabs along the long side and then adhered it all together with Scor-tape.  To get more detailed instructions on how to make boxes check out Splitcoast Stampers Resource section

To finish it off I made a little menu sign and also covered some mini clothes pins with the uncolored wood grain DSP.

Here is my menu board in all its glory - hanging out on the front of the fridge.  Now I need to print up some meal cards :)
