Another Raspberry SuiteColor Challenge

Yay!  Dawn has issued another color challenge!

This one was a little tough for me because while I love chocolate and blue together ... yellow, um not so much.  I'm just not a yellow person.

But thats what challenges are for, to stretch my creative wings ...

so I used the Cutesy Cover that is a free download off Lauren Meader's new My Time Made Easy site and came up with this

Its a "crayon box" style gift package.  I don't actually have a purpose in mind for this, but I wanted to make something besides a card this time around

The template comes with the front and back layers as well so I decided to print those in the same color and emboss with my CB Swiss Dots folder.  I created the side panels from scraps left over after cutting out the template

and just for completeness here's a back view.

Thanks for stopping by!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge

Dawn's Color challenge this week is right up my alley - I love the colors of fall and couldn't wait to get my stuff out to play (I am home again today getting a patio door and windows installed.  Yesterday did not go as well as it could have as there was a lot more damage from a leak than originally anticipated, but thank the Lord no structural damage)

So in anticipation of the changing colors here is my card:

I did a spotlight using the yellow orange.  I also used just the little piece of ground under the tree stamp and carefully extended  it across the whole layer.  I used the splatter stamp from the set for the leaves on both the silhouette image and the spot light as well as the background splatter stamping.

And instead of cutting out and layering that Top Note die cut, I used my E57 Copic and just edged it up to to the perforation line (same great layered look without all the cutting!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Here we go now - Raspberry Suite Color Challenge

Here is this weeks Raspberry Suite Color CHallenge.

5 Colors? Five!?!? And strictly speaking no white/light neutral.  I had an idea in my head to use bleach and lighten up the gray/stone card stock.  It was something completely different in my head when I started this project, but I do like how this card came out.

I still bleached it  - I filled my aqua painter with straight Chlorox  and squiggled across the sentiment (it was embossed with black craft ink and clear EP).  There was also a little  red left on my sponge so when I did the edges, the gray and red mixed, creating an effect I really like.
I also stamped the Linen background to give it a fabric feel.  I finished it off with some satin ribbon and a leaf green button from PTI

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge 10

This weeks Raspberry Suite Color Challenge is Berry, Melon, Brown and Cream.  This was a color combo right up my alley!  Love me those earth tones!

I used a chocolate base and stamped Background Basics: Retro in Vintage Cream ink.  The Flowers are form Upsy Daisy and are stamped in Regal Rose.
The button is a PTI vintage button in melon berry  tied with cream  jute.
Inside I repeated the daisies but stamped off to lighten the color
Thanks for stopping by!

Color And Sketch Challenge

For today's card I combined the latest Raspberry Suite Color Challenge
and the latest CPS sketch challenge.

I love making stripes with baby wipes especially in those luscious sherbet summer colors (OK, the aqua may not be a real sherbet color, but it certainly is in the same family :o). I used that for the larger background layer. I mixed up my own batch of a pseudo aqua mist and also mixed cameo coral with regal rose to better approximate the berry sorbet color.
I used the flip flops from my Sparkling Summer stamp set, since they are as summery as the colors. I wanted to color them aqua but my Copic order hasn't come yet to match the PTI colors, so I decided to play mad scientist and mix up a batch of my own. I mixed about 10 parts Cool Caribbean with 1 part Kiwi Kiss and diluted it with some drips of water. I think it came out pretty darn close.

For the dotted strip I used my Crop-A Dial to punch the white strip and then layered it over the berry sorbet. Then I realized that I had buttons in the challenge colors (or awfully close) so I added those to get some height on the card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Another Raspberry Suite Color Challenge

I am finding the color challenges that Dawn McVey has been posting to be extremely inspiring! I don't mess with color much - just generally go to my faves (the earth elements - love those spice colors!) So getting out of my rut and trying somehting new is wonderful. This week Dawn gave us 5 colors to incorporate:
I immediately thought of the baby wipe technique but struggled a little to get the rest of the card together. I kept thinking of sherbet, then remembered my Sparkling Summer set and went with the popsicles.

You can just notice the shine on the 'sicles. I coated them with Crystal Effects after the ink had dried.

I used Riding Hood Red, Cameo Coral, and Pretty in pink. I also decided I only wanted to use kraft as an accent so you can just see it peeking out on the focal layer.
This a card with several "firsts" on it. Its the first time I've sewn on paper. Michelle Wooderson has inspired me so much in this area. I thought I needed a special sewing machine, but from reading her blog I learned I could just use my regular one. I thought I really needed to know how to sew ... I've never been very good at sewing straight but I think it paid off here :o) I think you'll see more sewing in the future!

I also wanted vanilla hardware, but alas, only order the brushed silver. So .... I made my own. I heat embossed the tag and brads with SU! vanilla EP.

Thanks for stopping by.

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge 2

Woot!  Woot!  Dawn McVey is doing another color challenge!
I love the colors but was totally inspired by the leaf pattern on the pillow in the picture, so my goal was to represent that in ink and paper.

I paper pieced the leaves using some SU! patterned paper, and some regular cardstock I stamped randomly on.  I stamped the leaves on Linen Vellum from PTI to continue the fabric-y look.  I made the stitched "quilt" part using Background Basics:Retro from PTI.  I used craft ink and clear embossing powder (mostly because I wanted to heat set it so I didn't have to wait to finish the card :o) )
The medallion uses PTI's Guidelines Two and Around and About Sentiments.  I wondered if the words would fit around the outside of the circles and they did!  Since I didn't cut in around the leaves, I made a larger border (1/4" all the way around) to allow the brown to be showed off more.
Thanks for stopping by!

Blog Kickoff - Raspberry Suite Color Challenge

I've been seeing so many contests and such lately that ask for a blog that I thought I'd just go ahead and jump in with both feet. There are so many talented people out there that if you stumble across this site, just know I'm a simple engineer, trying to escape the high stress world of aviation flight electronics by hiding out in my basement and making stuff out of paper. I've got a list of those that inspire me over on the right ... I'm sure I'll add to it as time goes on. But just know that these ladies ROCK!

So for my first blog project I wanted to do a card for Dawn McVey's first Raspberry Suite Color Challenge:

Dawn is one of those gals on My Fave list. My take on Dawn's colors are Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron (SU!) Raspberry Fizz (PTI) and white. I'm digging the raspberry and chocolate, but those other colors take me right out of my comfort zone. But you don't grow if you don't try ... so here goes

The card base is a 6x6 piece of textured Tangerine Tango CS. I used the Quilter's Sampler stamp set from Papertrey Ink (PTI) and colored in the quilt squares with my markers. The raspberry fizz saddle stitched ribbon and button are also from PTI. There is also a "for you" rubon in the lower right corner, hidden a little by the stand.

Its going to be a mothers day card so on the inside I stamped a sentiment from the Quilter's Sampler along with a strip of quilt squares.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look.
