Color Play

Here is another card I submitted for publication.  Again it wasn't selected, but I still really like it because it was using a lot of colors, most of which are NOT in my comfort zone.  It got me to try something new and so I'm quite happy with it.  I would have LOVED to get it published, but alas not this time ... maybe next time because I intend to keep submitting...

I made the striped layer by running some scraps through my Xyron, cutting them into .25" strips and then adhering to a white layer.  I didn't want a lot of white showing

Inspired By ...

... this vintage typewriter for the PaperCrafts online challenge ...

I created this card ....

I was first inspired by the typewriter keys , and then decided on a pocket card to give the look of a typewriter itself.

I hand drew the lines with a VersaMarker and embossed with clear EP ... again to mimic the typewriter arms that hold the keys

Inside I stamped some text just toward the top of the liner ... so it looked like a type-written message to the recipient

Paper: Basic Black, White, Sahara Sand [Stampin' Up!]
Ink: Fresh Snow [Papertrey Ink]

Paper Crafts Magazine sketch challenge

I submitted a few cards this month to Paper Crafts magazine.  None were chosen for publication, but this is one of my faves ... my youngest and I worked on it together ... she did the colors, we used a layout provided by the magazine and I sort of put it all together

The card base is Concorde Crush, one of the new In Colors from SU! for 2010-2011.  Other colors used are Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise.  I used a Nestability square and debossed the frame ... it makes them that much more versatile (cut, emboss, deboss oh my)

Thanks for stopping by!

CPS 176 - hello l'il monster

A good friend from work (and great new stamping buddy - say hi to every one Tara) let me borrow her new Make A Monster set so I set out tonight to play.  After looking at the stamps, my first thought was Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc

Combine that with this weeks CPS sketch

And you get this little guy

I used Cosmo Cricket The Boyfriend collection for the patterned paper ... it just had a mischievous look with all those paper planes flying around

I colored little Mikey in with a Pear Pizazz marker and used C1, T1 and ca colorless blender to add some shading

I stamped the eyeball on the central layer and streaked it with matching ink

Moxie Fab - Shabby Chic

Seeing all the different styles on the Papercrafts blogs this week made me want to try a shabby chic card ... I'm still not sure I completely get the style, but I like how the card turned out

I first embossed the bottom layer with the new Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder from SU! ... doesn't it just set the tone for the whole card!.  Then I stamped the Linen background stamp (SU! retired) on the sentiment layer, stamped the sentiment and shelf.  I added pearls after going through the Card Style mystery blog hop and seeing that as a part of the shabby style (check out the blog hop starting at Moxie Fab World)

The flowers was made by die cutting the Newsprint DSP, spritzing with Pretty In Pink and using this tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers

I used a Labels 1 nestie to die cut the Newsprint DSP layer. I also stamped a Vintage Label stamp to border it and distressed it with Antique Linen distressing ink and sewed on  some vintage lace (thanks Rachel!)

So how'd I do on a shabby chic card?

Thanks for stopping by!

CPS 175

The CPS sketch this week is fun - clean and graphic which I love!

I changed up the shape and decided to make it a circle card ... all the layers and even the patterned paper

I used a vintage cream card base and cut with my largest circle nestability (I would have used my coluzzle, but its out on loan :)

The medallion was made by punching out the round tab punch from SU! in black and raspberry fizz and adhering them together ... makes roughly a 2: circle  (with those layers for the sketch built right in !)  The sentiment is form a TCP set called Joyride.  The flower was punched using a retired SU! punch.  I also cut a super thin strip of the dotted paper and threaded it through the button holes.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies  - all PTI unless noted
Stamps: Joyride [TCP]
Paper: Vintage cream, True Black, Raspberry Fizz, Black and White patterned
Embellies: Vintage buttons (black)
Other: flower punch [SU! retired], round tab punch [SU!], circle nestability, Big shot

Moxie Fab - Clean & Graphic

To celebrate the new publication Card Style, Moxie Fab World is having a daily style challenge.  The next one in line for me is Clean & Graphic.  Check out the deets and play along, why dontcha!

Here is my entry:

I so love the look of the hand-drawn frame, but when I was making this one I just couldn't for the life of me get a good, clean straight line!  So I opted for a lot of layers to create the same look with paper.

I used the Argyle Impression Plate to get that textured background and my new Kimono Kids stamp set from SU! for the string of paper lanterns.  I used various Reds and yellow (and yellow-red) Copic Sketch markers to color the lanterns in for a color pop.  I also used a white gel pen to color in the dots on the far right lantern.

Thanks for stopping by!

{Supplies - all SU! unless noted}
Stamps: Kimono Kids; Fillable Frames #5 (sentiment) [PTI]
Paper: White, Basic Black
Ink: True Black [PTI]

Moxie Fab - Fun & Cute

I made this card for the Moxie Fab World Fun and Cute Challenge

You should play along .. just follow the link above -  Cath has all the directions there for you!

For my quick, fun cute card I decided to also make it rather minimal.  I cut the layer using Mat Stack 1 die out of The Boyfriend collection (that sounds kinda bad unless you know I'm talking about paper :))

I used Round and Round stamp set for the medallion ... coloring the images in with a Real Red and Always Artichoke marker.  I also colored the flower blossoms with a Spica clear glitter pen to give them some sparkle.

I stamped the sentiment in Fresh Snow and used a white gel pen and ruler for the lines.  I was going to box the focal image but liked the clean look of just the line so I left it that way

Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps: Round & Round, Borders & Corners: Circles [PTI]
Ink: Fresh Snow[PTI]; Real Red marker, Always Artichoke markers, Early Espresso [SU!]
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, White [SU!]; The Boyfriend patterned [Cosmo Cricket]

Something besides a card

Every once in a while I want to make something besides a card.  Recently I saw a great project for a book mark.

Here is my version of it:

The directions are on

I used French Script and the new Artistic Etchings from SU! with a muted color palette of black, grey and crumb cake ... with just a splash of red

The book mark slides over the corner of the page, like so

I love vacations!  I get to sleep in, watch TV and play in my stamp room all day for the next 10 days!  Yay! Today I made a card using Jen Del Muro's sketch for you to try.  I also got my box of new goodies from the new SU! catalog.

Here's my take on the sketch:

I used Girl Friday from Cosmo Cricket for the patterned strip and stamped random circles from Borders & Corners: Circles and Polka Dot Basics on the card base.  For colors, I used Baja Breeze, Poppy Parade and Ocean Tides

I loved these little 'bots the moment I saw them.  It didn't help that my youngest and I are watching Lost on Netflix and at the end of each episode we say "Bad Robot" (its the production company name)

For the rivet, I used a retired jumbo eyelet and then made  circle mask and sprayed it with silver foil smooch spritz.

I don't know if it showed up well, but I also colored my 'bot with a Spica clear glitter pen, so even tho there are little spots of rust, he still sparkles :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps: {SU!} Lots of 'bots; [PTI] Borders & Corners: Circles, Polka Dot Basics
Ink: [SU!] Poppy Parade, Baja Breeze; [Tsukineko] Momento Tuxedo Black
Paper: [SU!} Poppy Parade, Baja Breeze, White; [PTI] Ocean Tides; [Cosmo Cricket] Girl Friday
Other:[SU!] Jumbo eyelet, silver foil smooch spritz,
Copics: T1, T4, T6, E35

What would I do without you?

CPS#174 came out this week and since I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks I get to play along.  Yay!!!!

I used a red, white and blue color combo and a completely retro theme. It seemed to go so well with the sketch

I tried to catch a side view of that adorable TV ... I filled the screen with Crystal Effect to make a fat TV tube

I used one of the sentiment from Friends Til The End and made it into a text background..  The "floor" beneath the pup is from Background Basics: Retro

Inside I added a smattering of those funky splats

Thanks for stopping by!
